As part of the 120km long gas pipeline from Milford Haven to Aberdulais, CMC Ltd. working for B&W Tunnelling have recently completed a 6.5m diameter shaft to a depth of 14m in medium to strong Sandstone on the outskirts of Llanelli.

In order to utilise the power of the larger excavator and hydraulic breaker on the surface, a number of extensions were specially manufactured to extend the range of this machine. A smaller excavator was then used to trim the sides of the excavation. By using this method the works were completed to time and budget.
